The following business valuation certifications are the qualifications that are required by the Small Business Administration for business appraisals. Each of these business valuation certifications has their own process for accreditation. Training, education, testing, and experience are part of the equation. Active membership and re-accreditation is also required.

American Society of Appraisers (ASA)

ASA - Accredited Senior Appraiser

  • The ASA business valuation certification has been in existence since 1981.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)

ABV - Accredited in Business Valuation

  • The ABV business valuation certification has been in around since 1997.

National Association of Business Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA)

CVA - Certified Valuation Analyst

AVA - Accredited Valuation Analyst

  • The CVA business valuation certification has been in existence since 1991 and the AVA designation since 1999.

Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA)

CBA - Certified Business Appraiser

  • The CBA business valuation certification has been in around since 1978.
